Camp Marco 2020

June 29th – July 2nd

A Therapeutic Day Camp

Camp Marco is designed as a therapeutic recreational day camp for area kids with mild to moderate mental-health challenges. These health issues if allowed to fester and grow can result in teen suicides and even violence. To put this in perspective, one in five children live with a mental health condition. It is likely that 70% of those children aren’t getting the help they need and as a result, suicide has become the second leading cause of children’s death in Collier County.

Working with The David Lawrence Center (a leader in mental health in Collier County) our campers will experience a curriculum that focuses on bullying prevention, mindfulness, wellness and coping skills. All of our fun activities like kayaking, boating, shelling, pottery, and urban dance, will reinforce these teachings. Our goal is to strengthen peer interactions and develop coping skills before kids move on to Middle and High School.

Our priest, Reverend Jessica Babcock, and Peggy Totten, Director of Family Ministries, will lead the camp. Dr. Lauri Kalanges (St. Mark’s Vestry Member) is our Medical Adviser and Winn Harris (Rev. Jessica’s sister and therapeutic day camp expert) will conduct all safety and skills training for staff and counselors prior to the camp.

This camp is by referral only through the David Lawrence Center, The Shelter for Abused Women and Children or school counselor. To receive a registration packet, contact Kat Stried at kat.stried@yahoo.com.
